Schools normally grab the education headlines, but this year universities bore the brunt of the (often unwelcome) attention. Thousands of students were left without places, thousands more were left without loans, a rise in tuition fees moved a step closer and, to round it all off, a vice-chancellor got into a spot of bother over the ‘perks’ of the job.
