The coalition sneaks to the left of Labour

If George Osborne has no plan B for the economy, then, ministers complain, Labour hasn’t even got a plan A. Its leader does, however, have a political strategy. Yesterday’s monster rally showed Ed Miliband intent on creating a rainbow coalition of interest groups opposed to “savage” Tory cuts. He rallied to his cause “mums, midwives, small business owners, policemen and women”. His claim: “They are, we are, the mainstream majority.”
