We need flatter, fairer and simpler taxes

Four days have passed since the Government announced that it would borrow £2.7 billion in order to undo the effect of abolishing the 10p tax rate, and only now are the full ramifications apparent. It is hard to avoid the conclusion that the Government is indenturing the nation in order to bolster its vote in advance of a by-election. Are we spending £2.7 billion of our own money to save Gordon Brown's face?
