Shake-up of China telecoms under way

China Telecom, the country's biggest fixed-line operator, yesterday agreed to pay Rmb110bn ($15.9bn), a price it admitted was "slightly high", to buy a mobile business from wireless rival China Unicom as part of a state-orchestrated telecoms sector restructuring.
