House prices: Should the Government intervene?

When house prices are rising, the British love of owning their homes falls below the political and public radar. But now, as the housing boom of the last decade ends, Gordon Brown appears to believe that the market is in urgent need of a fix. The Government has already asked experts to come up with ideas to help revive the market. We've listed some of the industry's suggestions below. Do you think any of them could work?
