Creating space for contemporary art

By Jackie Wullschlager
A wind machine blows three actors on stage. Tarpaulin screens attached to wooden scaffolds flap. Props, costumes, sets, display price tags. Characters play up roles that are deliciously fake. Against photographs featuring bright Kastanienallee in Berlin’s hip Prenzlauer Berg district, Death of a Trainee , René Pollesch’s malicious tragicomedy of capitalism unhinged, evokes Arthur Miller, Bertolt Brecht and chaotic installation art all at once.
