Brown's tax avoidance minister says 'I'm not ashamed of my offshore company in Bermuda'

Embattled City minister Lord Myners this evening said he was not ashamed of his business dealings with companies that dodge paying tax in Britain. Lord Myners, who is in charge of clamping down on tax avoidance, is at the centre of controversy after it emerged that he set up an offshore company in the tax haven of Bermuda of which he was part-time chairman. The company — Aspen Insurance — has avoided more than £100 million a year in tax. The peer also ran two more businesses that controlled substantial offshore funds. He was chairman of Liberty Ermitage based in Jersey and the fund management company Gartmore, that ran a Jersey-based offshore business.
